Lee

Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the football scholarship of his family as well as service to the community. He was the youngest son of Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon, who raised him on the family farm near Eufala. He played football alongside three brothers for Oklahoma. The three brothers were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award as the nation's best lineman. Lee Roy won two championships, and 31-1-1 during his three years as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned his degree in education. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. After college he settled in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers were an all-pro three times before beginning an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when, in 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of the ten outstanding young people throughout the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds during his time playing college football. He was a captain in 1975. was the captain of the squad. In 1993, he was appointed the athletic director's assistant at University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
